Local and live
On the Highway 4 trade corridor to Coutts
Lethbridge anchors the north end of the Highway 4 trade corridor. Highway 4 runs 103 kilometres from the Coutts crossing, Alberta's busiest border crossing, where it meets Interstate 15, and becomes 43 Street on the city's east side, while the Crowsnest Highway (Highway 3) carries east-west traffic toward Medicine Hat and British Columbia. Economic Development Lethbridge's Canada's Western Gateway initiative counts more than 200 trade and logistics companies and about 3,000 transport and logistics jobs in the corridor, with Class I rail links to CPKC and CN. The Canadian Pacific rail yards moved from downtown to Kipp, just west of the city, in 1983, and the city's Sherring Business and Industrial Park offers about 350 acres of serviced industrial land.
Property crime in Lethbridge fell sharply in 2024 but has not gone away. Between January and September 2025, the Lethbridge Police Service counted 10,365 criminal violations, 10.7 per cent more than a year earlier, even as vehicle thefts dropped 23.8 per cent to 173. In November 2025, an investigation that began when officers noticed the gate of a storage compound on 10 Street North standing ajar recovered about $85,000 in stolen property, including power tools linked to five break-ins. Outside the city, RCMP announced charges in June 2026 against three people over copper wire stolen from irrigation and industrial sites in Lethbridge County, the MD of Taber and Newell County, with damage from one incident estimated at more than $96,000. Tools, wire, trailers and farm machinery left on open lots are what a yard owner here stands to lose.
For trucking and agricultural yards along the corridor, the exposure is greatest after the last shift leaves. Sigma's agents keep live eyes on every camera through the night, on weekends and on holidays. AI person and vehicle detection picks up movement, an agent confirms it on video and gives a live, instant talk-down through the site's speakers, and police and your contacts are called, with video clips and a written report to follow. Gate Operations lets agents check each arriving driver against your pickup lists and open the gate remotely, and Yard Operations adds trailer damage inspections and visual seal checks on video.
On the record: The Lethbridge Police Service reported 679 break and enters in 2024, down from 1,049 in 2023, and 282 motor vehicle thefts, down from 376. Source: Lethbridge Police Service, Crime decreases significantly in 2024 in all areas of the city (Feb. 27, 2025), 2024

FAQ
Lethbridge monitoring questions
Can you watch a trailer yard off 43 Street or the Highway 4 corridor overnight?
Yes. Agents watch the yard's cameras live all night, plus weekends and holidays. When AI person and vehicle detection flags movement, the agent checks the live video, gives a live, instant talk-down through the site's speakers and calls police and your contacts. A written report and video clips follow.
Can agents admit drivers picking up loads after the office closes?
Yes, with Gate Operations. The agent sees the truck pull up, speaks with the driver through the gate speakers, checks ID against your rules, schedules or pickup lists and opens the gate remotely. Each entry and exit is logged, and drivers who aren't on your list stay outside.
What does it take to set up monitoring at a Lethbridge site?
The monitoring is remote, run by Sigma from Acton, Ontario. Sigma's technicians travel to your site to install the cameras and speakers, and we can also hook up many compatible cameras you already have. The site supplies the power, the internet connection and the gate.
