Remote yard monitoring in Sparks, Nevada
Along the Union Pacific line and I-80 toward the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, Sigma's agents watch Sparks truck yards and rail-served warehouses around the clock and run gates for the trucks that use them.
Local and live
Where the Union Pacific line meets I-80
Sparks got its start as a railroad town. Southern Pacific moved its division point here from Wadsworth in 1904, building a roundhouse that was the largest west of Chicago; the settlement was originally named Harriman after the railroad's president before being renamed Sparks in 1905 for Nevada's governor. Union Pacific still runs a working rail yard just south of I-80 near the old Nugget Casino towers, and the area south of the tracks filled in with warehouses and light industry starting in the 1970s. The Southeast Connector, a 5.5-mile expressway with just two signalled intersections, opened in 2018 to link the city directly to south Reno, and McCarran Boulevard (State Route 659) rings the two cities together. Nine miles further east on I-80, the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center's 107,000 acres hold Tesla's Gigafactory, Panasonic and Switch's data centre campus.
Freight moving between the industrial centre and the rest of the country passes through Sparks, and some of it doesn't make it all the way. On January 29, 2026, two semi-trailers were reported stolen from the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center; Storey County detectives tracked them to an industrial area of Sparks, and Sparks police intercepted the trucks and arrested three California men the next day, recovering cargo worth more than $500,000. The Storey County Sheriff's Office has called the thefts hitting the area 'definitely organized crime,' with suspects mostly travelling in from California.
A trailer yard or rail-served warehouse in Sparks needs watching at the exact moments trucks are moving through it unattended, which is usually overnight or between shifts. Sigma's agents handle that live: every camera on the property is watched 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and AI person and vehicle detection flags anyone near a trailer or the fence line so an agent can verify it on video immediately. From there, the agent gives a live, instant talk-down through the site's speakers or calls police with recorded evidence, and for trucks that are expected, Gate Operations checks the driver and opens the gate remotely with the entry logged.

FAQ
Sparks monitoring questions
Can you watch a yard near the Union Pacific line or the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center?
Yes, whether you're right next to the rail yard, out toward the industrial centre on I-80, or somewhere else in Sparks. Agents have every camera up live, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and AI detection is what tells them someone's near a trailer or the fence after hours, so they're not just staring at empty footage.
Can Sigma handle the gate for trucks coming into a Sparks yard?
Yes. An agent watches for each truck, speaks to the driver through the speakers at the gate, and checks them against whatever list or schedule you've given us before opening the gate from their station. The time and an image from every entry and exit go into a log you can pull up later.
We're not near Sigma's base in Ontario. What would setup involve?
Someone reviews your site, in person or over a call, to see what you've already got; plenty of existing cameras can be wired into the system rather than swapped out. For anything missing, a technician installs it. After that, monitoring is handled off-site through your internet connection, so there's no need for anyone from Sigma to be physically present day to day. Power, internet and the gate remain the site's responsibility.
How do I get started?
Request a free site assessment or call (209) 900-5884 ext 2. A Sigma specialist reviews your layout, existing cameras and risks, then recommends the right coverage, at no cost and with no obligation. Every quote costs less than a 24/7 guard.
