Remote yard monitoring in Halifax and Dartmouth
Live agents and AI cameras watch truck yards, container and trailer lots, warehouses and job sites across Halifax, Dartmouth and Burnside Business Park, day and night, every day of the year.
Local and live
From the harbour container terminals to Burnside
Container freight reaches Nova Scotia through two harbour terminals, PSA Halifax's Atlantic Hub at the south end of the city and Fairview Cove at the north end. The Port of Halifax handled 502,000 TEU and 8.6 million metric tonnes of cargo in 2025, including 106 calls by vessels larger than 12,000 TEU. CN's Halifax intermodal terminal on Africville Road is open 24 hours a day, and a CA$105 million inter-terminal rail project aims to cut the number of trucks moving containers through downtown. Across the harbour in Dartmouth, the Burnside business and industrial park covers about 3,400 acres on the northeast shore of Bedford Basin, next to Highways 107, 111 and 118, with the Atlantic Gateway Logistics Park inside its boundary.
Property crime in the municipality is mixed. The joint semi-annual report from Halifax Regional Police and the RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment shows overall property crime down 5 per cent from July to December 2025, but motor vehicle thefts rose to 266 and thefts from vehicles jumped 26 per cent to 1,202, with the largest increase in the East Division, which covers Dartmouth. Building sites are hit too: in 2025 thieves got into a fenced construction site in Lower Sackville, climbed onto the roof and stripped copper tubing from several heating, ventilation and air conditioning units, damage the RCMP put at about $500,000. Loaded trailers, parked tractors and rooftop equipment are what a yard or site owner here stands to lose.
For a Burnside distribution centre or a trailer drop near the container terminals, Sigma's agents watch every camera live around the clock, all year. AI person and vehicle detection flags movement, the agent confirms it on video, gives a live, instant talk-down through the site's speakers and escalates to police, fire services or your contacts, with video clips and a written report to follow. Gate Operations lets agents see each truck arrive, speak to the driver through the gate speakers, check them against your pickup lists and open the gate remotely, and Yard Operations adds trailer damage inspections and visual seal checks on video.
On the record: Halifax Regional Police and the RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment recorded 151 business break-ins across Halifax Regional Municipality from July to December 2025, up from 145 in the same months of 2024, and 83 thefts over $5,000, up from 76. FAQ
Halifax monitoring questions
Can you watch a trailer yard in Burnside overnight and on weekends?
Yes. A Burnside yard gets live agents on every camera around the clock, every day of the year, holidays included. When AI detection picks up a person or vehicle, an agent checks the video, speaks to the intruder through the site's speakers and calls police and your contacts if needed. You receive the clips and a written report.
Can agents check the drivers picking up containers or trailers at our gate?
Yes, through Gate Operations. The agent sees the truck pull up, talks to the driver through the gate speakers, checks ID against your schedules or pickup lists and opens the gate remotely. Every entry and exit goes into a log you can review.
How does a Halifax site get set up when Sigma is based in Ontario?
The monitoring itself happens remotely, so distance makes no difference. Sigma's technicians travel to the site to put in the cameras and speakers, and many compatible cameras already on site can be connected instead. The site supplies the power, the internet connection and the gate.
How do I get started?
