Waterloo EDC counts over 1,400 automotive, aerospace and food processing companies in the region, and the City of Waterloo lists advanced manufacturing, robotics and automation among its key sectors. In Kitchener, much of that work sits in business parks such as Huron Business Park along Bleams Road. Trucks reach these plants on the Conestoga Parkway, the expressway sections of Highways 7, 8 and 85 through both cities, which ties into Highway 401 by way of Highway 8. Region of Waterloo International Airport is just east, in Breslau.

Theft here reaches the roof as well as the yard. Waterloo Regional Police say thieves got onto Kitchener rooftops twice in November 2025 to strip copper from air-conditioning and HVAC units, once at an institution on Connaught Street and once at a commercial building near Riverbend Drive and Lancaster Street West. Trucks and trailers are on the list too. In March 2026, the same service arrested six men and laid 61 charges in an ongoing investigation into truck, trailer and load thefts, carrying out search warrants in Kitchener and Hamilton.
