Leamington anchors the largest concentration of greenhouses in North America, with more than 60 percent of Ontario's greenhouse space and close to 2,000 acres under cover producing tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and cannabis, a sector worth about $1 billion in farm-gate value on its own. In September 2024, OPP's Essex County Community Street Crime Unit say someone used a vehicle with a trailer attached to take a bronze propeller worth about $20,000 from a business on Milo Road overnight. OPP also investigated a string of break-ins at farm bunkhouses in Leamington starting in October 2024, with five incidents in a matter of weeks.
