Truck yard and warehouse security in Oshawa
From the port and the 401 to Northwood Business Park, Sigma's live agents watch Oshawa yards, warehouses and storage lots 24/7/365 and act while an intrusion is still under way.
Local and live
Port, plant and the Northwood lands
Oshawa moves freight by water, rail and road. The Port of Oshawa's loading dock is about 2 km from Highway 401 and has a CN rail spur, and the City's economic development office says the port handled more than 500 vessels carrying over three million tonnes of cargo in the past decade, serving the auto and steel industries along with road salt and fertilizer. General Motors' Oshawa assembly plant has built pickups since 2021, Highway 401 runs straight through the city, and Highway 407 East opened to Harmony Road in 2016.
The north end is filling with distribution space. Northwood Business Park offers about 500 developable acres between Taunton Road West and Highway 407 East, minutes from Highways 401, 407, 412 and 418, and already holds a 499,665-square-foot industrial building with 104 truck-level doors and a 379,000-square-foot distribution centre that stores up to 60,000 pallets. Durham Regional Police calls Oshawa the busiest police jurisdiction in the region, and in 2025 its Central East Division logged 2,611 thefts and 270 break and enters, while vehicle thefts held at 221 for a second straight year.
Sigma covers Oshawa yards without anyone sitting on the property overnight. Cameras with AI person and vehicle detection watch the gate, fence and storage rows, and when they flag movement a live agent checks the feed, uses the site's speakers for a live, instant talk-down and calls Durham police and your contacts if the person stays. New Northwood buildings can also hand their after-hours gate to Sigma: agents check each driver against the day's schedule, open the gate remotely and log every truck in and out.
On the record: Durham Regional Police's Central East Division, which polices most of Oshawa, recorded 221 vehicle thefts in 2025, the same number as in 2024, while vehicle thefts across Durham Region fell 10 percent to 1,291. FAQ
Oshawa monitoring questions
We're opening a distribution building in Northwood Business Park. When should monitoring start?
It can start during construction, as soon as the site has power and an internet connection, and carry on once trucks start arriving. Agents watch every camera live, AI detection flags people and vehicles after hours, and gate and yard work can be added when the building opens.
Can agents log trucks in and out of our Oshawa yard at night?
Yes. With Gate Operations, the agent sees each truck pull up, talks to the driver through the gate speakers, checks the driver against your rules or pickup list and opens the gate remotely. Every entry and exit is recorded with the time and an image, and drivers who don't check out are refused and reported to you.
Do we need all new cameras for an Oshawa site?
Not always. Sigma can connect many compatible cameras a site already has, and Sigma's technicians come out to install new cameras and speakers wherever they're needed. Monitoring then runs remotely; the site provides the power, the internet connection and the gate.
How do I get started?
Request a free site assessment or call (416) 477-5589 ext 2. A Sigma specialist reviews your layout, existing cameras and risks, then recommends the right coverage, at no cost and with no obligation. Every quote costs less than a 24/7 guard.
