Haslet sits on Interstate 35W and US Highway 287 about 15 miles north of downtown Fort Worth, bordering Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport and the BNSF Alliance Intermodal Facility, a rail yard of more than 500 acres. The Texas Comptroller counted more than 1.1 million container and trailer lifts at that facility in 2024 and $834.6 million in trade through the wider Alliance port of entry, whose roughly 9,600-acre operational area paid $344 million in property taxes to local governments, including Haslet, the same year. DFW International Airport is about 30 minutes away, on top of Alliance's own two 11,000-foot runways.

Haslet's population is still small, about 5,267 people by a 2025 estimate against 1,952 at the 2020 census, but the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, which has patrolled the city under contract, logged 18 burglary calls, 27 theft calls and 6 stolen-vehicle reports in Haslet over just seven months of its 2021 fiscal year. With trucking, air cargo and rail facilities packed along the same few miles of I-35W, trailers and tractors parked outside business hours are an easy target for anyone passing through.
